State of the City Address

Mayor Kevin Oster Shares State of the City Address Highlighting Progress and Future Goals

During this week’s City Council meeting, Mayor Kevin Oster delivered his annual State of the City address, reflecting on the progress the City of Lidgerwood made in 2025 and outlining priorities and goals for the year ahead.

The address highlighted key infrastructure improvements, economic development momentum, and projects designed to strengthen the community and position Lidgerwood for continued growth.

“As we reflect on 2025, I’m proud of the steady progress we’ve made,” said Mayor Oster. “We are investing in our infrastructure, strengthening our business community, and preparing sites for future growth. Lidgerwood is open for business, and we are positioning ourselves for long-term success while preserving the character and identity that make our town special.”

Infrastructure Improvements

Street maintenance remained a priority in 2025. The City contracted paving for deteriorated areas and continued using an annual Dura-Patcher rental to address problem spots throughout town. This proactive approach helps protect city streets and reduce long-term repair costs.

Drainage improvements were also completed on the west edge of town near Housing Authority rental properties, addressing long-standing water concerns and improving reliability in that area.

Another important infrastructure project included installing a new roof and completing additional updates on the city water tower. The water tower is not only a critical piece of infrastructure but also an iconic feature of Lidgerwood’s skyline and a symbol of community pride.

Supporting Local Business and Development

Economic development continues to be an important focus for the City. In partnership with the Lidgerwood Progressive Development Corporation, funding was secured for a new community sign along Wiley Avenue for the local grocery store, helping strengthen visibility and support the business community.

The City was also pleased to welcome a new business to Wiley Avenue as Wiley Farm and Home purchased the lumberyard from Dave and Jan Brecker. The transition ensures that this important service remains available locally for residents and surrounding communities.

Efforts also continued to prepare properties for future investment. Vacant lots were cleaned up and readied for resale, and the former One Stop building was demolished and the lot prepared for redevelopment. Preparing sites in advance allows the City to respond quickly when business opportunities arise.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Several projects are planned as the City continues to move forward.

Improvements will continue on the Wiley Avenue lot to prepare the site for a new business opportunity. The City is also planning to install a permanent generator at the sanitary lift station to ensure reliable service during power outages.

Road maintenance will remain an ongoing priority through a progressive maintenance program designed to preserve city streets.

Another project planned for 2026 is a lit sidewalk that will extend from the south end of Wiley Avenue to Wolfe Ford and Dollar General. Bids for the project are expected to be let in May. Once completed, the sidewalk will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along a key corridor in the community.

Community Support

The City of Lidgerwood would also like to recognize the generous support that helped make several projects possible this past year. Contributions from the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and an anonymous donor played an important role in advancing community improvements.

Mayor Oster also expressed appreciation for the City Council, city staff, and community partners who continue working together to move Lidgerwood forward.

Through responsible planning, community partnerships, and continued investment, Lidgerwood remains committed to building a strong and vibrant future for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
